Magnolia house is a 2
minute walk from Garajau shops, in a quiet residential area
behind the Dom Pedro hotel, where you can use the indoor and outdoor
pool for a small charge as a non resident. Garajau is about
10minutes by car to the bustling city of Funchal. It offers a
good range of facilities for the holiday maker including a wide range
of shops and restaurants. There is a bus stop, taxis and car hire.
Everything you need is within a short walk away of less than 2 minutes
from Magnolia house.
From the main strip of shops, a road leads down to the Statue of
Christ. This statue is a smaller version of the one in Rio de
Janeiro. Here, you will find a recently installed cable car,
which for a small fee will take you straight down to Garajau beach.
You will find refreshments are served and you can enjoy some
relaxation time on the beach.
Canico de Baixo, Lido Galo Mar and Praia dos Magos are all
about 5 minutes away and are excellent places for swimming.
Camache is about 10minutes away and is the centre of the wicker
industry and is home to one of Madeira’s largest handicraft centres.
Santa Cruz is also about 10minutes drive away and on the way
the airport.
Machico is about 15 minutes away from Garajau and is steeped in
history. It was the former capital of the island. It has a marina and
a new man-made beach as well as a lovely new promenade complete with a
variety of restaurants.
Garajau’s high street combines the Hotel Dom Pedro Garajau
on one side of the road (where you can swim in their pool for a
small fee) and a wide range of shops and restaurants.

CAR
HIRE
There are many car hire firms in Madeira. There is one 2 minutes
from Magnolia house in Garajau. We ourselves always book on
the internet prior to our visit and pick the car up at the
airport. Car hire is around 250euros a week so its worth shopping
around for a better deal. |

Located on the
sunny, dry, southern coast of Madeira, Garajau is
situated, midway between the airport, and the capital, Funchal. Garajau is named after the
many black-headed sea birds, (terns), which nest
in the cliffs.
The coastline at Garajau is a conservation area.
Garajau is also ideal as a location to start the many levada
walks in Madeira.
Two Golf courses are within easy reach

There is
Palheiro golf course situated on the old Blandy estate,
commanding stunning views of Funchal harbor. We are
privileged to be able to offer a 30% discount on golf green
fees. The facilities include an 18 hole course, an academy
course, a fully equipped pro shop, a restaurant and club house.
Sit on the balcony, enjoy a drink while soaking up the panoramic
views of the island. If you have forgotten your clubs, all
equipment can be hired and visitors are made welcome. For
the more serious golfer weekly deals are available.
The second golf
course is at Santo da Serra, which is a 27 hole course.
Again, it commands excellent views with more open fairways.
Weekly deals are available here too. Also, there is a
local market at Santo da Serra on Sundays.
